Diouf brace ups pressure on Irvine

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Alan Irvine's days as West Brom head coach could be numbered after Mame Biram Diouf's second-half brace condemned the Baggies to a 2-0 defeat at Stoke.

Diouf slotted home in the 51st minute before a lucky deflection off the Senegal forward from Marko Arnautovic's shot 15 minutes later took the ball past Ben Foster once again.

West Brom had put in a creditable away performance up to that point without being able to convert it into goals, and came agonisingly close to scoring between Diouf's two efforts as Gareth McAuley hit the post.

But the simple fact was that the Baggies had suffered a seventh loss in nine Barclays Premier League matches, and Irvine's fears about his job will only have deepened.

Albion are now 16th, just a point clear of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone, and at the end of a fairly wretched 2014 the club may well be ready for a change at the helm once again.

Things look far rosier for Stoke, who are up to 10th having registered back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

Albion's record signing Brown Ideye was preferred to Saido Berahino in the starting line-up and was presented with an opportunity in the opening few seconds as he latched onto a ball over the top, but the Nigeria international sent his effort off-target.

Glenn Whelan felt he could have had a penalty after he was challenged by Craig Gardner, and he then brought a save out of Foster with a header that appeared to be going wide anyway.

Foster's opposite number Asmir Begovic comfortably dealt with a Stephane Sessegnon attempt before the ball ricocheted to Bojan Krkic on the edge of the Albion box and the Spaniard lashed a shot just wide.

A West Brom break saw another chance come Ideye's way in the 18th minute but Begovic denied him with his legs and both sides continued to show a lack of cutting edge.

James Morrison's shot was caught by Begovic, Ideye tumbled in the area but play continued and Whelan saw a volley go behind off the head of Joleon Lescott.

Baggies skipper Chris Brunt unleashed a swerving strike in the 36th minute that went close but wide, before Sessegnon tried his luck with less accuracy.

Whelan got a long-range effort on target towards the end of the half that Foster claimed and Stoke were then relieved after losing possession in their own half to see Gardner loop a shot wide.

It did not take long for the standard of finishing to improve after the interval as Diouf notched his fifth goal of the season. Bojan lofted the ball out wide, Erik Pieters delivered it into the box and Diouf got away from two defenders before slotting in a shot that took a slight deflection off Lescott.

The Potters saw two decent chances to extend their advantage go begging in quick succession soon after, both coming from Diouf crosses. The first came to Peter Crouch, who was just unable to finish at the near post as a challenge diverted the ball wide, and it was subsequently Arnautovic unable to capitalise, nodding the delivery wide.

Things were looking ominous for West Brom, but - with Berahino having been sent on for Sessegnon - they then almost snatched an equaliser as Begovic parried a Gardner shot and McAuley prodded against the post.

Moments later, Stoke had their second goal in somewhat fortunate circumstances, Bojan passing to Arnautovic and his strike taking a deflection off Diouf that deceived Foster.

There looked little prospect of West Brom getting back into the match after that and they mustered virtually nothing in terms of posing an attacking threat in the remaining minutes.

There were boos from their fans at the final whistle and what appeared to be a barrage of abuse from the away section directed at Irvine as he walked past it and down the tunnel.

Hughes has high hopes for Bojan

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Stoke boss Mark Hughes hopes Bojan Krkic can follow the lead of fellow Spaniard and ex-Barcelona man Cesc Fabregas by developing into an established Barclays Premier League star.

Forward Bojan has made an impressive start to life in English football following his summer switch to the Potters from Barca, emerging as the most exciting element of the Staffordshire outfit's attack.

And the season so far has also seen some hugely accomplished performances from Fabregas, the former Arsenal midfielder who secured a return to the Premier League in June by leaving Barcelona for Chelsea.

Hughes - once a player for the Catalan club himself - can see similarities between the two.

And ahead of Stoke's Barclays Premier League home clash with leaders Chelsea on Monday, the Welshman said: "Fabregas has been a top player for a long time, but in the future, who knows how good Bojan can be?

"Nobody knows that at the moment, but we are all encouraged by his ability.

"Fabregas is a player I have a great deal of respect for. We had a little set-to one year, but I was really impressed by his behaviour after and I have a lot of time for him as a person and as a player.

"So I feel there are also similarities between their personalities.

"They are both outstanding players and humble young men as well."

The "set-to" Hughes referred to came in 2007 after an FA Cup tie between the Blackburn side he was managing at the time and Fabregas' Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, a turgid 0-0 draw.

Fabregas was said to have made a comment to Hughes at the final whistle questioning how a former Barcelona player could employ such negative tactics in a game.

But having been initially outraged, Hughes was then impressed that Fabregas apologised to him for the run-in.

Recalling the incident, Hughes said: "I don't think I had any strikers, so I just parked the bus basically.

"He (Fabregas) wasn't happy, but he actually hung around until after I had done all my press to apologise, which showed class."

Bojan sustained a hip injury in last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace but has trained this week and Hughes expects him to be available to face Chelsea.

Defender Marc Muniesa has recovered from the hamstring complaint which prevented him from being involved in the Palace match, while Hughes is optimistic a knee problem picked up by Stephen Ireland will not rule the midfielder out of Monday's contest.

Thibaut Courtois should be fit to return for Chelsea.

The Belgium goalkeeper has missed the Blues' last two matches with a muscular injury and manager Jose Mourinho expects him to return at the Britannia Stadium.

Didier Drogba should overcome an ankle injury sustained in the Capital One Cup win against Derby, while defender Kurt Zouma is available for selection after suffering a head injury on Tuesday.

Boss Jose Mourinho underlined the need for referee Neil Swarbrick to control the game.

"I like [the test of going to Stoke]," he said. "I like, but it's no problem with a good referee that can understand what is aggressivity, or when the aggression finishes and start the rules of the game. No problem at all.

"We need a good referee, yes. I think we need a good, experienced referee who can understand exactly that.

"What happened in both boxes in this kind of matches needs important decisions.

"What is aggressivity and what goes beyond, go beyond the rules of the game. That is important, but I like it, yes."

The referee's performance was a theme Mourinho kept revisiting, from being asked about Courtois dealing with crosses to and whether Hughes' side is as aggressive as that of the Tony Pulis era.

"We have our own identity," the Chelsea boss said. "We want to play football.

"We play beautiful football and that's what we want to do, but we can compete with physicality.

"That's no problem for us. The referee is there and I'm not worried because the referee is there."

Stoke v Burnley

Stoke boss Mark Hughes made two enforced changes to his starting XI for the Barclays Premier League clash with Burnley at the Britannia Stadium.

Marc Wilson and Erik Pieters dropped out due to injuries sustained in the 2-1 victory at Tottenham, with Geoff Cameron and Marc Muniesa coming in, but fellow defender Phil Bardsley's knock did not stop him keeping his place, while fit-again midfielder Glenn Whelan was among the substitutes.

Burnley, looking to build after recording their first win of the season last time out by beating Hull, had one adjustment to their line-up from that fixture as ex-Potters midfielder Michael Kightly replaced the injured Scott Arfield.

Shenton signs professional deal

Stoke have tied down teenage prospect Ollie Shenton to a long-term deal.

The midfielder has been with the Stoke academy since he was seven and has been training with Mark Hughes' first-team squad this season.

He made his Potters debut in their 3-0 Capital One Cup win over Portsmouth in August.

The 17-year-old told the club's official site: "I'm really pleased to have signed a professional contract with Stoke City. I know it's just the start and I've got a long way to go.

"I've set my sights on playing in the first team for Stoke since the moment I joined the club as a seven-year-old and it's a dream to have signed as a professional.

"Every day in training I try to push myself harder and harder to improve. I'm training alongside really experienced players who keep telling me to keep going and I'm striving to make myself a better player."

Stoke boss Hughes defends Chelsea

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Stoke manager Mark Hughes feels Chelsea are no worse offenders than any other side when it comes to diving.

A number of incidents from last weekend's Barclays Premier League fixtures brought the topic of simulation back to the fore once again.

And three of those involved Chelsea players going to ground in their 2-0 home win over Hull, with Willian and Diego Costa being booked for diving either side of Gary Cahill apparently throwing himself to the turf but going unpunished.

Tigers boss Steve Bruce described the Cahill incident as being ''like something out of Swan Lake''.

But when Hughes, whose 12th-placed team are table-topping Chelsea's next league opponents, was asked ahead of that meeting if he thought the Blues were particularly guilty of diving, he said: "No - they are no worse than anyone else in my view."

Speaking at his press conference ahead of Monday's clash at the Britannia Stadium, ex-Chelsea striker Hughes admitted referees currently have a tough task on their hands trying to distinguish between incidents where a "soft" foul has been committed and where there has been no contact, with a player going down deliberately.

At the same time, though, the Welshman - who in October defended Victor Moses, the winger on loan at Stoke from Chelsea, amid accusations he dived in a victory over Swansea - does not regard simulation as "a problem right through the game".

Hughes said of the diving debate sparked by last weekend's incidents: "There is a focus almost every week, and more often than not it changes from one week to the next.

"An incident in a game will be highlighted and people will surmise there is a problem right through the game, but I don't think that is the case.

"I think there will always be players maybe anticipating tackles coming in, and when a defender doesn't, then that can lead to embarrassing situations for the people involved because it looks like they are trying to gain an advantage.

"It is important that if somebody is fouled, the right decision is made, even if it is a soft foul - a correct decision is a foul, or a penalty. That is not simulation in my view.

"So it is about getting the right decisions from referees, although it is not easy for them to deal with.

"I think more and more these days there is more skill in it, with players prepared to go down to gain an advantage even when there has been absolutely no contact whatsoever - that is incorrect, and should not happen.

"There is a grey area in terms of players having contact and players just going down without any, so that is what needs stamping out."

Meanwhile, Potters midfielder Glenn Whelan has indicated he wants to stay with Stoke for the rest of his career.

Whelan, with the club since 2008, is out of contract next summer and Hughes said on Thursday that an offer of a new deal has been made to the Republic of Ireland international which he is yet to respond to.

Quoted by The Sentinel on Friday, Whelan, who last started a Stoke game in early October, said: "I will be just keeping my head down and working as hard as I can to get back in the team, and see where it takes me.

"That has done all right for me since I've been at Stoke so I'm sure I'll be okay come the end of the season.

"I would definitely like to stay. I have always enjoyed coming in for training and pulling on the red and white jersey. That's no different now.

"It's difficult because I'm not in the team at the moment. I haven't actually sat down with the manager or anyone on the board, so where the stories have come from of late I'm not sure. They haven't come from me.

"If we can get something sorted out, it's not me wanting to leave. For as long as I still have a chance of playing I'll be doing all I can to spend the rest of my career here."

Diouf brace ups pressure on Irvine

Alan Irvine's days as West Brom head coach could be numbered after Mame Biram Diouf's second-half brace condemned the Baggies to a 2-0 defeat at Stoke.

Diouf slotted home in the 51st minute before a lucky deflection off the Senegal forward from Marko Arnautovic's shot 15 minutes later took the ball past Ben Foster once again.

Stoke 3-2 Arsenal: Match Report - view commentary, squad, and statistics of the game as it happened.

Potters upset Gunners

Stoke held on to beat Arsenal 3-2 after a dramatic afternoon at the Britannia Stadium.

The Gunners are the team Stoke relish taking on more than any other and the home fans were in dreamland after Peter Crouch, with the fastest goal of the Premier League season, Bojan Krkic and Jonathan Walters put them three up at half-time.

But, after Bojan had a fourth ruled out for offside, Santi Cazorla pulled one back from the penalty spot and two minutes later Aaron Ramsey reduced the deficit further.

There were still 20 minutes to play but the sending off of Calum Chambers for two yellow cards reduced the heat a little and Arsenal could not find a third.

The result brought an end to Arsenal's run of three successive wins and ended a losing sequence of three for the hosts.

The bad blood between these teams dates back to the challenge made by Ryan Shawcross on Ramsey nearly five years ago that broke the Arsenal player's leg.

Arsene Wenger was unhappy with pre-match comments from Shawcross hyping up the rivalry and the Stoke captain's name was greeted with loud boos from the visiting fans.

But they were silenced only 19 seconds into the match as Steven Nzonzi got away down the right and sent over a cross that Chambers failed to clear under pressure from Mame Biram Diouf.

The ball ran to Crouch, making his first start in more than a month - and he had the simple task of tapping it in after goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez lost his balance and fell over.

Teenage defender Hector Bellerin was making only his second Premier League start for Arsenal and his fine cross in the 11th minute should have set up an equaliser but somehow Olivier Giroud headed wide.

Bojan has grown into Stoke's main creative force and his link-up play, in particular with Crouch, was causing Arsenal real problems.

Stoke were relishing the lively atmosphere and tempo and full-back Phil Bardsley got into the spirit with a fierce shot that Martinez could only push uncomfortably away.

Fortunately for the Arsenal keeper, Chambers reacted quickly to ensure Crouch could not take advantage of the rebound.

Arsenal looked sporadically dangerous and Asmir Begovic may well have been struggling had Cazorla's 20-yard effort been on target rather than just over the bar.

But largely the game was being controlled by Stoke and it was no more than they and Bojan deserved in the 35th minute when the Spaniard classily converted Walters' terrific cross.

The gleeful chant of '2-0 to the rugby team' rung around the stadium - mocking a famous Wenger jibe about Stoke's style of play under former manager Tony Pulis.

But even the Arsenal boss must have been impressed by the fluidity of Stoke, who were simply outplaying his side.

Begovic had to be alert to preserve the lead in the 38th minute when a Giroud header deflected off Shawcross, but just before half-time Stoke added a third.

Bojan's corner was headed down by Crouch and an unmarked Walters slammed the 100th club goal of his career high into the net.

Unsurprisingly, Wenger shuffled things around for the second half, sending on Danny Welbeck for Bellerin, with Mathieu Flamini moving to right-back.

Welbeck was straight into the action, seeing a shot deflected wide, but Stoke continued to pose plenty of problems.

Martinez was having an uncomfortable afternoon and he was caught out by a Bojan free-kick in the 51st minute.

The keeper had to dive back towards his goal to keep it out and was fortunate the ball arrived at Geoff Cameron's feet too quickly for the defender to do anything with it.

At the other end, Alexis Sanchez almost made Nzonzi pay for a poor error when he ran through on goal, beating Shawcross and Begovic, but shot against the post.

It looked curtains for Arsenal when Bojan found the net for the second time in the 65th minute - but a belated offside flag cut short the celebrations.

The Gunners went down the other end and won a penalty when Diouf tripped Flamini. Begovic got a hand to Cazorla's shot but could not keep it out - and two minutes later Ramsey reduced the deficit to a single goal.

Begovic produced a fine save from Welbeck but Sanchez's corner picked out Ramsey at the back post and he shot through a crowd of players.

Arsenal pushed hard for an equaliser but found themselves reduced to 10 men 12 minutes from time when Chambers was shown a second yellow card for pulling Bojan.

And, despite putting Stoke under a lot of pressure, the third did not come.

Hughes praises Bojan determination

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Stoke boss Mark Hughes feels Bojan Krkic has answered any doubts over whether he can cope with the grittier side of life as a Barclays Premier League footballer.

Bojan arrived in the English game over the summer with a reputation as a player of undoubted talent but also with question marks hanging over him.

Certainly, there was plenty of interest in seeing how the little forward - a product of the Barcelona academy who has also played for Roma, AC Milan and Ajax - would fare having joined the Potters, particularly on what are deemed the less glamorous occasions.

Bojan, though, is emerging as a key man for his new side and he produced a typically influential display in Stoke's 1-0 win at Everton on Boxing Day amid bitterly cold, soaking wet conditions.

The 24-year-old Spaniard proved the match-winner of a physical contest, earning and then converting a 38th-minute penalty.

And Hughes said: "You saw the determination in Bojan, both in the initial run into the box and then to grab the ball and score the penalty.

"The Everton game was a new experience once again for him and I think he is really enjoying what is happening with his football.

"It was a cold, wet day, but all that is an old cliche.

"It is something where if people see any weakness in Bojan's play or attitude to hard work, they will say he is not quite right for the English game.

"I think in the short space of time he has been here, he has knocked all those thoughts on the head because he has come in and shown he is an exceptional professional. He works really hard every day to get better and stronger."

Eleventh-placed Stoke's next match is a home clash with West Brom on Sunday and Hughes is hopeful Bojan, who came off in the second half against Everton due to a back problem, will be available.

A head injury sustained by Ryan Shawcross in that game should not stop him from being involved, but Phil Bardsley is a doubt because of the ankle issue that ruled him out of playing at Goodison Park, and Stephen Ireland (knee) looks set to be absent again.

The Potters - now with 51 points for 2014, their best haul for a calendar year since their promotion to the Premier League in 2008 - head into the fixture against 15th-placed West Brom still looking to record back-to-back top-flight victories for the first time this term.

Hughes' men have pulled off some impressive triumphs, beating the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham, but struggled each time to then build upon the result.

The Welshman is optimistic that might change following the Everton contest as his side prepare to host an Albion outfit that have only one win in their last eight league games.

"We have found it difficult to get back-to-back results - that is something that has stalled our season on occasions," Hughes said.

"We have had really good performances, then stumbled in the next game. So hopefully that won't be the case this time.

"It is difficult for everyone with the quick turnaround, a little bit unfair on everybody really. But we'll make the best of it - we pride ourselves on our fitness levels."

West Brom boss Alan Irvine will not shirk the challenge as he searches for the winning formula.

Pressure is growing on Irvine, at a club not renowned for its patience, as the Baggies' poor run of results continued with a 3-1 loss to Manchester City on Boxing Day.

But Irvine has reasons to be encouraged. His side built up a 2-0 lead with some impressive attacking play against QPR last weekend - only to capitulate and lose - and individual errors hampered them against City.

Irvine said: "It will be a very tough game at Stoke - it is a hard place to go. They are a team who are capable of causing you a lot of problems.

"But we will do the work we normally do on them and hopefully that will get us a good result.

"They had a good result against Everton and will be feeling good about that, so it is a big challenge - but if we can eradicate the individual errors then we are good enough to cause them problems.

"All I can do is keep trying to do the job in the way that I do it. I work extremely hard. I try to leave nothing to chance."

Hughes hopeful over trio

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is optimistic Glenn Whelan, Erik Pieters and Phil Bardsley will all be fit for selection for Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash with Burnley at the Britannia Stadium.

Hughes says Whelan, who has been out since last month due to a broken leg, "should be an option" and certainly expects Pieters and Bardsley to be available, despite the pair picking up knocks in the 2-1 win at Tottenham on November 9.

However, it is anticipated that Marc Wilson will not feature because of the hamstring problem he sustained against Spurs, while Dionatan Teixeira (broken foot), Robert Huth (calf) and Peter Odemwingie (knee) definitely remain sidelined.

Hughes also revealed his delight that those who were away on national service have returned in fine physique ahead of the clash with the Clarets.

"They have all come back without too many issues to be perfectly honest," he said.

"Obviously you want the guys to be fit and well because we have a big game at the weekend, and they understand that so they have come back with the mind-set that we need to do as well as we can in the game.

"You always have your fingers crossed that the lads come back fit and well when they are away with their countries, and thankfully they appear to have done so which is a positive for us."

Burnley are hopeful Nathaniel Chalobah and Scott Arfield will be fit.

Chelsea loanee Chalobah was injured playing for England Under-21s during the international break, while Arfield picked up a knock in training, but both have recovered well.

Long-term absentees Sam Vokes (knee) and Matt Taylor (Achilles) remain out, but Steven Reid is now fully fit after a groin complaint.

Boss Sean Dyche believes his side's victory over Hull can act as a calling card for their Premier League credentials.

The Clarets' top-flight return went without a win for the first 10 games of the season but, just as questions were being asked about whether it might stay that way until May, they turned over the Tigers before the international break.

Dyche is too pragmatic a coach to get carried away, especially with his side still propping up the rest of the division, but he is content that the 1-0 success shows Burnley are not out of their depth among the elite.

"One win isn't like we've won the World Cup, one win is us laying a marker down and now we're looking to move it forward," he said.

"You get that first win and everybody feels a bit better about life.

"That's all we were looking for, that first marker to say we're in the Premier League and we're in here for a reason.

"The players have had a lot of exposure for the wrong reasons this season, with this talk of 'could they win a game, when would they win a game?'.

"It's all so heavily covered that players can get influenced by that over time. I don't think mine have but they could be."

Whelan wants Stoke to build on wins

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan hopes the club can develop some real momentum heading into the second half of the season after rounding off 2014 with back-to-back wins.

The Potters secured successive Barclays Premier League victories for the first time this term by following up their 1-0 Boxing Day triumph at Everton with a 2-0 home defeat of West Brom on Sunday, Mame Biram Diouf notching both goals.

The Staffordshire outfit - currently 11th - found some impressive form in the second half of last season that saw them finish ninth, their highest final position since their promotion in 2008.

And with a similar achievement the target for this campaign, Whelan has stressed the need for Stoke to get some consistent success together once again.

"We all said after (the West Brom game) that we've played better and got beaten," the 30-year-old said.

"We weren't particularly good at times but we were able to grind out a result 48 hours after the Everton clash, which was always going to be difficult.

"We've got 25 points now but everyone will hold their hands up and say it's been a bit stop-start.

"If we can get it going like we did in the back half of last season hopefully we can push up the table to where we want to be.

"The last couple of games have been great. Two massive wins and two clean sheets, so let's kick on from there."

Stoke's next match is the New Year's Day home clash with Manchester United - a fixture they won 2-1 in February last season.

Hughes hoping for more home help

Mark Hughes hopes Stoke's fans can help them get back on track when Arsenal visit the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

Potters fans enjoy nothing more than beating Arsenal and always give Gunners manager Arsene Wenger - a critic of their style of play under previous boss Tony Pulis - a 'warm' welcome.

The rowdy atmosphere has inspired Stoke in recent matches against Arsenal, with the Potters losing just one of the last eight clashes between the teams at the Britannia.

Keeping that run going would be particularly timely as Hughes' team look to end a run of three straight defeats.

"This fixture always seems to generate a really good atmosphere," said the Stoke boss.

"It started before my time I would suggest. It's an incredible atmosphere inside the stadium for matches like this and it takes a good team to deal with it.

"For the most part Arsenal are an outstanding team but in recent times we've done very well. The help we've had from our crowd has been part of that. It's a huge part when you're trying to get positive results. I enjoy coming up against them and I am sure the lads do, too.

"We are performing well at the moment - we just aren't converting our chances when they come along. From my experience in the game, these runs can't keep on going.

"If we play as well as we have done recently then we will soon start to win matches in a convincing manner, I am certain of that."

After losing their last home match to Burnley, Stoke have suffered narrow losses on the road against Liverpool and Manchester United, leaving them only three points above the relegation zone.

Hughes has made evolving Stoke's style of play a priority since replacing Pulis prior to last season but insists Arsenal should not expect an easier time of it.

"Over the years we've made it difficult for Arsenal to play their game," he said. "We're a different team now but we can still compete. After going up against Liverpool and Manchester United, we certainly won't fear Arsenal."

Wenger has endured a difficult start to the season, with calls from some fans for his long tenure to be brought to an end, although Arsenal have won their last three games.

Hughes said: "I think most respect the job he's done. He won a trophy last year. In football, sometimes familiarity brings contempt. Maybe some people want a change for change's sake. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for."

Hughes has plenty of injury problems to deal with but is hoping one or two players could be back, with Jonathan Walters and Robert Huth the most likely contenders.

"It is undoubtedly the worst run of injuries that I have had during my time at the club and, when you consider the fact that we have had a bout of illness going around the place too, we have been unfortunate," said Hughes.

"Stephen Ireland has picked a bit of illness up disappointingly, because we thought we had seen the last of that."

Wenger is confident his side can cope with whatever awaits them at Stoke, but could do without "exaggerated" pre-match comments aimed at turning up the heat.

Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross - whose horror tackle on Aaron Ramsey in 2010 left the Gunners' midfielder with a double leg break - claims the home fans "dislike" of Arsenal will lead to a "tasty game" at the Britannia Stadium.

Wenger - who once labelled Stoke's tactics under former boss Tony Pulis as "rugby on the goalkeepers" - believes his side must concentrate on their own game rather than worry about what they might face both on and off the pitch.

"I think that is exaggerated. It is a football game, it is not a hate game. You want to focus on playing football," said Wenger, whose side have just one win at Stoke from seven matches since 2008.

"Stoke is always a tough and very committed place to go, but we prepare ourselves to be at the level of our commitment and dictate the way we want to play. The most important thing is to not forget how we play our game.

"They have a little bit of a different style (under new manager Hughes), but against us it is always a very committed game anyway."

Wenger added: "We are in a job where you have risks. The physical risk is part of our job, we accept that.

"What you want is to go into a game with everybody being 100 per cent committed, but fair. After, you accept that any accident can happen.

"You do not want to have any suspicions before the match starts, that is not very good."

Since the disappointment of losing at home to Manchester United, Arsenal have put together three straight wins with three clean sheets to progress to the last 16 of the Champions League and close up on the Barclays Premier League top four.

Chile forward Alexis Sanchez netted a late winner against Southampton on Wednesday night to continue his impressive form since a big-money summer move from Barcelona.

Wenger feels the 25-year-old "is in the red zone" given how many matches he has played this season for both club and country, so must be carefully managed over the hectic Christmas schedule.

"Unfortunately you never know how far you can push (a player). We are not scientific enough to predict that completely, but he has a great recovery potential," said Wenger.

"He recovers very quickly, is always sharp and wants to play.

"Alexis has a huge desire, no complex, and has a fighting attitude that means even when he misses something it doesn't affect him.

"He is very mobile, very determined and he has the sense to be in the right place in the box."

Sanchez has netted 14 goals so far, but Wenger feels it is unjust to label Arsenal as a one-man team.

"Let's say it does not reflect the truth," Wenger added.

"On the goalscoring record, you can say he is dominant, but in the game of course not."

Arsenal have some defensive worries, with Nacho Monreal having suffered ankle ligament damage early on against the Saints, and so could be out for a few weeks.

Centre-back Laurent Koscielny will be assessed on his inflamed Achilles.

Full-back Mathieu Debuchy is close to a return from three months recovery from an ankle injury, and may be taken to Istanbul for next week's Champions League tie at Galatasaray.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for promising Ipswich defender Tyrone Mings when the transfer window opens in January.

Wenger said: "On the defensive front, we will try to bring somebody in, but we are not on any special case.

"We are on a few young players yes, that we always follow. He (Mings) is one of the players we follow, but we are not close to signing anybody at the moment."

Potters fans defend 'Delilah'

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Stoke supporters have defended their right to sing a crude version of the popular Tom Jones song 'Delilah' following a call in Wales for it to be ditched as a rugby anthem.

Fans of the Premier League football club can regularly be heard bellowing the 1968 UK number two hit, replacing the lyric about killing a woman with wording that could be considered sexually offensive.

Former Plaid Cymru president Dafydd Iwan has called on Wales rugby supporters at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium to find something else to sing, claiming the song "trivialises the idea of murdering a woman".

Delilah, written by Les Reed, Barry Mason and Sylvan Whittingham, tells of an opportunistic killing by a man, who waits until his former partner's lover leaves her home before making his move.

The Welsh Rugby Union appears disinclined to ban the song, and Stoke fans may also be reluctant to give it up.

Bryan Shaw, a spokesman for the Stoke City Supporters' Club, said: "It's just a song we sing to encourage the team.

"I don't think anybody among the fans would ever even think it has anything to do with domestic violence.

"It's all tongue-in-cheek and I'm sure it's just an issue of today's society where 99 per cent of the country just get on with it but someone looks for a hidden meaning."

The song, in its original form, includes the lyrics: "At break of day when that man drove away, I was waiting.

"I cross the street to her house and she opened the door.

"She stood there laughing.... I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more."

The Stoke supporters' version changes the central lyric to: "I put my d*** in her hand and she laughed no more."

Iwan, who held his senior role with Plaid Cymru, the Welsh nationalist party, from 2003 to 2010, is also a folk singer.

Quoted in several national newspapers, he said: "It is a song about murder and it does tend to trivialise the idea of murdering a woman and it's a pity these words now have been elevated to the status of a secondary national anthem. I think we should rummage around for another song instead of Delilah."

A spokesman for the Welsh Rugby Union, quoted by the South Wales Evening Post, said: " Within rugby, Delilah has gained prominence through its musicality rather than because of its lyrics.

"There is, however, plenty of precedent in art and literature, prominently in Shakespearean tragedies for instance, for negative aspects of life to be portrayed.

"The Welsh Rugby Union condemns violence against women and has taken a lead role in police campaigns to highlight and combat the issue.

"The WRU remains willing to listen to any strong public debate on the issue of censoring the use of Delilah but we have not been aware of any groundswell of opinion on this matter."

Terry and Fabregas earn Blues win

Chelsea will spend Christmas three points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League after they regained the cushion with a 2-0 win at Stoke.

Cesc Fabregas proved a key influence once again for the Blues, providing the corner from which John Terry converted a second-minute header and then notching a goal himself in the 78th minute, teed up by another impressive performer in Eden Hazard.

Jose Mourinho's side could have had more goals, with Diego Costa failing to finish a couple of good opportunities, and were generally very much in control throughout this contest, showing their ability to cope with an at-times combative Stoke outfit on a chilly Monday night at the Britannia Stadium.

Chelsea had memorably faltered here last season, being beaten 3-2 by Mark Hughes' team, whose previous home game earlier this month saw them defeat Arsenal by the same score.

The Blues had also suffered a loss - their first of 2014/15 - in their previous away league match, a 2-1 reverse at Newcastle.

But they had no such problems on this occasion, securing the victory they needed to put breathing space once more between them and second-placed Manchester City.

They raced into the early lead when Fabregas - registering yet another assist for the campaign - swung in a corner and Terry got the better of Geoff Cameron to head in his first Premier League goal since December 2013.

Stoke made a firm response, although initially in a physical sense as Costa was sandwiched by Steven Nzonzi and Ryan Shawcross - a collision that left the Blues striker requiring treatment.

Then, while tensions appeared to be simmering between Costa and Shawcross, Phil Bardsley made a reckless-looking tackle on Hazard.

Mourinho's reaction, as he bolted out of his technical area, suggested he felt Bardsley should have been sent off, but referee Neil Swarbrick only produced a yellow card.

The Potters subsequently began to apply some pressure on the Chelsea goal, with the fit-again Thibaut Courtois doing well to tip a deflected Nzonzi shot around the post and Jonathan Walters seeing an effort blocked by Gary Cahill.

But Chelsea then sprung a counter-attack which broke down when the ball came off Swarbrick, prompting further ire from Mourinho.

And the visitors might have added a second goal just after the half-hour mark as Nemanja Matic made a fine tackle to rob Cameron of possession, the Blues broke away and the ball was fed to Costa, who was through one on one with Asmir Begovic but sent his shot narrowly wide.

Mourinho's men finished the first half looking comfortable, and that continued after the break, although they were unable to make the net bulge again.

Fabregas had penalty claims dismissed after going down in the box and Willian sent the ball into Begovic's hands.

Erik Pieters was booked following a minor flare-up with Costa, Hazard set up Fabregas, whose flick was caught by Begovic, and Willian saw a free-kick deflect wide.

In the 63rd minute Stoke striker Peter Crouch was forced off with an injury, with Mame Biram Diouf coming on, before Cameron was replaced by Charlie Adam, and the latter went close to equalising with a drilled shot wide.

But it was not long after that that Chelsea looked to have made the game safe as the ball came to Fabregas in the box from Hazard and the Spaniard took one touch before seemingly scuffing a shot that deceived Begovic to roll in.

Begovic came out moments later to deny Costa from making it 3-0, before another Stoke substitute Oussama Assaidi - scorer of the winner in this fixture last season - had a shot saved by Courtois.

Further efforts from Adam and Bojan Krkic were also unsuccessful, while Walters picked up a booking for a foul on Hazard, who had to come off.

Coates fined by FA

Stoke chairman Peter Coates has been fined £5,000 by the Football Association for comments he made about referees.

Speaking to local paper the Sentinel last month after a series of matches where Stoke felt they had been badly treated, Coates said: "We feel we don't always get fair treatment and that is all we are asking for.

"There does seem to be a bias towards other teams. You always feel that because we have a good crowd that gets behind the team, referees seem to think, 'I will show them who's in charge here'."

The FA took a dim view of Coates' comments and charged him with improper conduct.

He denied the charge but has been found guilty at an independent regulatory commission hearing.

An FA statement read: "Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, Peter Coates has been fined Ă‚£5,000 in relation to media comments.

"The Stoke City chairman was charged with improper conduct in that his comments alleged and/or implied bias on the part of referees and/or brought the game into disrepute.

"Mr Coates denied the charge and requested a personal hearing at which the breach of FA Rule E3(1) was found proven. He was also warned as to his future conduct and ordered to pay Ă‚£1,500 towards the cost of the hearing."

The outcome is unlikely to please Stoke, who were furious that Swansea manager Garry Monk was not punished for accusing Victor Moses of 'cheating'.

The Potters also feel captain Ryan Shawcross has been unfairly singled out as a player who grapples with opponents in the penalty area.

Injury blow for Moses

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Stoke winger Victor Moses is set for at least six weeks out with a thigh injury, the club have announced.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for the Potters this season following his loan switch from Chelsea, but was injured in the defeat to Burnley at the weekend and will now not feature again until the new year.

"He has a significant thigh injury which is likely to keep him out for several weeks," Stoke assistant boss Mark Bowen told the club's official website.

Moses has made 12 appearances so far this season, scoring one goal, and his absence will be a major blow to manager Mark Hughes ahead of Saturday's trip to Liverpool, where Moses spent last season on loan.

"At the moment we're deciding with Chelsea whether to go back and have the rehab there or stay with our team," Bowen added on BBC Radio Stoke.

Defender Marc Wilson could be back in action for the trip to Anfield after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The Republic of Ireland international sustained the problem against Tottenham before the international break but is now back in training.

"Marc trained on Tuesday, albeit lightly, but he trained and will have more intensive training later in the week and hopefully he'll be available at the weekend," Bowen added.

The Premier League's relentless Christmas schedule "could be a hard period" for Stoke striker Bojan Krkic, according to boss Mark Hughes.

Bojan suffered a hip injury in Stoke's 1-1 Premier League draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday, prompting Hughes to admit the Spain forward may find his first Christmas in England tough going.

The 24-year-old should recover in time to face Chelsea at the Britannia Stadium on Monday, December 22, but Hughes conceded Stoke will monitor the former Barcelona forward closely across the festive schedule.

"Yeah we've talked about it," said Hughes of how Bojan will cope without the winter break favoured by continental leagues.

"At the moment he's really enjoying his football and playing week in week out.

"So I think we can ride that wave to a certain extent, he's happy with what he's doing and how he's playing so for now we just go with it.

"There may be games where you see the little edge to his game just appearing, we'll see how it goes, but we're mindful of the fact that as he hasn't been through it before it could be a hard period for him."

Hughes admitted Stoke lost their creative edge when Bojan limped off after taking a heavy bang to the hip at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The former Manchester United and Wales striker conceded Stoke must find more ways to link midfield and attack.

"In the second-half we weren't able to retain the ball as well, but Peter (Crouch) was always making himself available," said Hughes.

"We just missed that influence of Bojan in the second-half, that left him more isolated so it's more difficult for him to make an impression.

"The best way for him to make an impression though is to score goals, and it was important we got back on level terms as quickly as possible.

"So thankfully the ball broke to him and he was able to put it away."

Bojan penalty wins it for Stoke

Bojan Krkic's first-half penalty steered Stoke to a 1-0 win over Everton in a physical Boxing Day encounter at Goodison Park.

The visitors took the lead in the 38th minute of the Barclays Premier League contest when referee Lee Mason adjudged James McCarthy to have fouled Bojan and the Spanish forward slotted in the resulting spot-kick.

Steven Naismith had a header cleared off the Potters' line, Kevin Mirallas passed up a decent-looking chance to equalise and Leighton Baines' drive was parried by Asmir Begovic, but Everton struggled overall to create much against a solid Stoke outfit .

In an inconsistent season, the Toffees have now lost three times at home in the league and won only one of their last six top-flight games.

Roberto Martinez's men have slipped a place in the table to 12th, with Stoke - following only their second victory in seven matches - replacing them in 11th.

The opening half of the game on a cold, wet day on Merseyside was characterised more than anything else by players hitting the turf.

First to go down was Mirallas in the first few seconds, falling under the attentions of Bojan and having his appeals for a penalty waved away by Mason.

Romelu Lukaku and Ryan Shawcross then both hit the deck following a nasty-looking, accidental clash of heads. Both were able to continue, although Shawcross sported a head bandage.

John Stones - one of three Everton players, along with Mirallas and McCarthy, returning to the team after injury - subsequently required treatment after losing the ball when challenged by Glenn Whelan. The tackle had sparked a Stoke breakaway, but having received the ball from Bojan, Mame Biram Diouf could only fire into Tim Howard's arms.

The lively Bojan then just failed to make contact with an attempted header in front of goal, before Phil Jagielka was on the receiving end of a firm Whelan challenge. The England defender was soon down again after jostling with Jonathan Walters in the box and looked hurt, but soldiered on for the time being.

Marko Arnautovic was next to be tended to by medical staff after having his ankle stood on by Gareth Barry. Mason kept his cards in his pocket on that occasion, but did not take much longer to make the first booking of the game, cautioning Naismith for a foul on Bojan, who then sent a shot over the bar.

The disjointed affair started to find some attacking rhythm as Mirallas saw a shot deflected narrowly wide, Barry meeting the resulting corner at the far post but miscuing things, sending the ball back across goal.

Walters was then yellow-carded for holding back Leighton Baines - who had looked to be the last man - and moments later Mason pointed to the spot at the other end as Bojan went to ground as he tried to get past McCarthy.

The Everton midfielder looked amazed by Mason's decision and there were howls of protest from Toffees fans in the stands, but it did not bother Bojan, who finished coolly from the spot.

As the first half approached stoppage time - of which 10 minutes were added on - Begovic clumsily gave away a corner and when the ball subsequently came to Naismith, his header was nodded off the line by Steven Nzonzi.

A great opportunity then came Mirallas' way in the additional period, but he put his shot the wrong side of the post.

The interval saw Jagielka come off for Antolin Alcaraz, while Howard, who had hobbled down the tunnel after the half-time whistle, was also substituted for Joel Robles.

Martinez's side remained unable to show much intensity after the break, as Ross Barkley struck wide and Lukaku shot tamely to Begovic.

The Stoke goalkeeper did have to get down to push away a low Baines effort, but there was little to trouble him thereafter, while Nzonzi flashed an effort wide of Robles' goal.

There was more tough tackling before the end, though, with Barry being booked for clattering Nzonzi and Potters substitute Charlie Adam receiving the same punishment for bringing down Mirallas.

Hughes: Virus blowing through Stoke

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Stoke boss Mark Hughes has conceded his side are at the mercy of a virus that has swept through the training ground.

The bug has already decimated the under-21 set-up, and although the club believed they had contained it, three senior players in Asmir Begovic, Geoff Cameron and Phil Bardsley have now been laid low.

Hughes is hopeful the illness will pass in 24 hours and the trio will be in training again on Friday, but has no idea who might be the next victims ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League trip to Liverpool.

Hughes explained: "We're struggling to contain it somewhat.

"The under-21s were hit by it earlier in the week. We tried to deal with it there and then.

"We closed their operation down to such an extent they haven't been in or around the building for the last three days, and they won't be in tomorrow either.

"Unfortunately, today Asmir, Geoff and Phil reported they were feeling unwell with sickness and what have you.

"Phil came in and was prepared to train, but under the circumstances we felt he was better served by returning home.

"Asmir was ill overnight and didn't report in, and Geoff was sick when he came into the building, so he went straight back."

Asked as to the cause, Hughes replied: "It could be the time of the year, something that's around, that you pick up from your kids.

"We're not sure where it's come from. We tried to sanitise the building on Wednesday, we went right through it.

"Hopefully it's going to be a 24-hour thing and they'll be okay, but naturally it's something we're having to monitor.

"We thought we'd got hold of it, but after this morning we've had to put those thoughts on the backburner.

"We're trying to keep the impact of it to a minimum if we can, but we're at the mercy of it. We're hoping nobody else will go down with it.

"In 24 hours' time we might be in a similar situation with different people, but we're hopeful we've done enough."

For Hughes, it is a case of illness being added to injury given the number of players who have been on the sidelines of late.

On-loan Victor Moses joined the list on Wednesday as he will be out for six-to-eight weeks with a thigh injury.

Better news for Hughes, though, is that defenders Erik Pieters and Marc Wilson returned to training this week after missing the 2-1 home defeat to Burnley last Saturday with calf and hamstring problems respectively.

Crucially, influential centre-back Robert Huth is on the brink of a return after a recent calf injury.

Huth has not played a league game for a year after sustaining a long-term knee injury, and although fit in pre-season, has only played two Capital One Cup matches this term due to setbacks.

Hughes added: "He's doing really well. He's very close to joining in with the senior squad again, which we are all delighted about.

"We're coming into a period of games in a short period of time, so we are going to need bodies, and Rob coming back at this time of year is a bonus for us.

Crystal Palace Vs. Stoke City - Premier League Match Preview

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Stoke City ended a run of three successive defeats with a 3-2 win over Arsenal last weekend, The Potters now travel to Selhurst Park to take on 15th placed Palace.

Stoke are yet to secure back-to-back wins in The Premier League this season, but could do just that if they could upset Neil Warnock's men tomorrow.

Mark Hughes' side tasted defeat on their last trip to The Eagles when former Potters' boss Tony Pulis was at the helm. He handed Stoke City a 1-0 defeat after Jason Puncheon's first half strike.

Since then Pulis has been replaced by Warnock and the fixture holds less precedence for Stoke fans now Tony Pulis isn't in charge, but they will still be in full song hoping another three points away from home will lift them into the top half of the table.

This season Stoke have registered wins over teams who currently occupy top ten places in the League, with successes over Man City, Tottenham and Arsenal, whilst they struggled to overcome the challenge of Burnley and Leicester City.

Take nothing away from Mark Hughes side this season, they are a hard team to predict and with Bijan set to continue his current run of form, Crystal Palace need to be firing on all cylinders to stop him.

Team News

Damien Delaney will hope to start for Palace after recovering from a calf injury, but Joe Ledley and Jonny Williams are set to miss out.

Stoke's Jonathan Walters is expected to shake off a knee problem, although Hughes revealed Marc Muniesa is a major doubt with a hamstring problem.

Robert Huth, who made his first Premier League appearance in more than 12 months last weekend, could be in-line for a start at Selhurst Park which would be his 150th appearance for Stoke.

Stats

Stoke City have scored 19 goals in their last 20 away matches, while Crystal Palace have scored 22 goals in their last 20 home matches.

The Potters have picked up just two points from six games against sides in the bottom half of the table, while they have gained 16 points from nine games against those in the top half of the Premier League.

Crouch's strike after just 19 seconds is the quickest in the top flight this season, and the earliest Arsenal have ever conceded in the Premier League.

The big man is now set to make his 600th club career appearance at Selhurst Park on Saturday. This includes Premier League, First Division, Isthmian League and Swedish Second Division appearances!

Prediction

Stoke City are in good form away from home this season and will still be on a high from the Arsenal win, that being said Crystal Palace could hand Stoke tricky fixture here.

Potters prey on Arsenal again

www.inulpoker.com | Agen Poker Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Online Indonesia Terpercaya | Poker dan Domino Terbaik |

Stoke showed the Britannia Stadium's fear factor is alive and well by sending Arsenal home with their tail between their legs, according to Potters striker Peter Crouch.

The Gunners have won only once on their last nine visits to Stoke and were three down at half-time on Saturday before fighting back to 3-2.

It is the fixture Potters fans relish more than any other, with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger a long-standing critic of Stoke's style of play and physical approach.

Ryan Shawcross' tackle in 2010 that broke Aaron Ramsey's leg and the unsavoury aftermath has not been forgotten by either team and the extra spice to the atmosphere has served Stoke well over the years.

Crouch said: "The crowd are always so up for it, and that obviously gives us a boost. But we had a game plan and that worked to perfection.

"I think it does help, everything that surrounds this game. There's a bit of history, words have been exchanged and things have happened in the past. There is a little bit there and it's always nice to make sure we get the win.

"I've been an away player here before and I know it's not a nice place to come. I've been here with Spurs, with Liverpool and, as a big club, you come here and it's like, 'Do we have to go to Stoke?'

"And that's something that we have to maintain. It's all right playing good football but we still have to have that fear factor and I think we've proved that we've still got that."

Mark Hughes made evolving Stoke's style of play a priority when he took over as manager from Tony Pulis in the summer of 2013.

Stoke have already beaten Manchester City and Tottenham as well as Arsenal this season but their three home defeats are as many as they suffered in the whole of last season.

They could not have made a better start against Arsenal, with Crouch netting after just 19 seconds, and goals from Bojan Krkic and Jonathan Walters made it a dream first half.

The match turned in a five-minute spell midway through the second half.

First Bojan had a fourth goal controversially ruled out for offside - referee Anthony Taylor deciding Mame Biram Diouf, who looked level anyway, was interfering by blocking the goalkeeper's view.

Arsenal went up the other end and won a penalty, converted by Santi Cazorla, and two minutes later Ramsey pulled a second back, but Stoke held on.

Taylor's decision caught players and fans by surprise, and Crouch said: "That was frustrating.

"You go 4-0 up and in the blink of an eye it's back to 3-2. That could have killed us off. He's had a shot from outside the box and I was scratching my head wondering why it wasn't given.

"The ref said that Diouf was impeding the goalkeeper but I don't think he moved. It's a bit of a grey area that one.

"We knew they would come back into it in the second half but we had to show that character and determination to get the result."

Amid all of Arsenal's talent, it was Bojan that shone brightest on the ball.

A somewhat unlikely summer signing from Barcelona, the little playmaker once known as the new Lionel Messi initially looked a fish out of water in the Premier League.

But, since coming back into the side just over a month ago, Bojan has blossomed into Stoke's most important attacking player and Geoff Cameron thinks the moniker might fit after all.

The American defender said: "It's not easy to come from other countries and to adapt to the Premier League. It's more physical, a faster pace. It took some time for him to adjust and now he's starting to fit in his shoes really well and he's proving he's a big-name player.

"He's a fantastic player. Technically he's amazing. He's a guy that you want on the pitch because he can change a game. He's that spark. You could say he's like a little Messi but I don't want to fill his head too big."

Bojan linked up particularly well with Crouch, and the striker will hope it is a partnership Hughes wants to see more of.

Saturday's game was the first he had started for more than a month, and he responded with his first goal for more than two.

The 33-year-old said: "It's been really frustrating. I've been really disappointed to miss out the last few games and it was a case of trying to take the chance once I got it. Hopefully I've done that."
